Leafy Sweater/Lisciasty Sweter

No i przyszla zima! Dopiero polowa listopada a tu pelno sniegu i -17 stopni Celsjusza! Stanowczo za wczesnie - nawet tu, gdzie mieszkam (poludniowe Ontario). Pogoda definitywnie swetrowa. Jakis czas temu, zrobilam dla corki taki fajny sweterek z motywem lisci. Opornie jakos mi szedl i bylo bardzo duzo prucia. Juz od samego poczatku robilam pomylki. I chociaz wzor w sumie nie jest trudny i nie jest zle napisany, to trudno mi bylo jakos zaczepic o niego mozg. Odlozylam go na bok, a corka zdazyla przez ten czas z niego wyrosnac. I znowu prucie aby zaczac projekt od nowa w wiekszym rozmiarze i na wiekszych drutach (dobrze, ze przewaznie kupuje o 1-2 motki wiecej niz potrzeba). I chociaz nadal z duzymi oporami i wieloma pomylkami, to jakos dobrnelam do konca.

Winter is here! It's only half way into November, but we already got lots of snow and a very frigid - 17 degrees Celsius! That's just way to early - even for this place (Southern Ontario). It's sweater weather for sure! Some time ago, I made a neat sweater for my DD with a leaf motif. For some reason, it was a slow and stubborn knit. I kept making mistakes from the very beginning, which meant lots and lots of frogging. Even though the pattern is not that difficult and is generally written well, I just couldn't wrap my brain around it . Rather frustrated, I put it aside for a bit. Consequently, my DD grew out of it before I had a chance to finish it. Soooo... back to frogging it was and back to the beginning to make a bigger size. I am so glad that I usually buy 1-2 extra skeins of yarn than the pattern calls for. Even though this time around it was still slow going, I did manage to make it to the end.
 

Wzor oficjalnie nazywa sie "Beleaf Me" (autorstwa Ekateriny Filippovej-Blanchard), i mozna go zakupic na Etsy tutaj (w wersji angielskiej i rosyjskiej), lub na Ravelry. Chociaz jest to wzor dla dzieci, to jednak mozna go troszke zmienic tak, aby pasowal na osobe dorosla. W moim przypadku (bo sweter corki wchodzi na mnie bez problemu na szerokosc, z tym, ze mam troszke wiecej kraglosci, wiec i wyglada bardziej kobieco, ale nie jest zbyt obcisly), jak juz wspomnialam, uzylam troszke grubszych drutow, troszeczke grubszej wloczki niz w oryginale, oraz instrukcji na najwiekszy rozmiar (czyli na dziecko 14-to letnie). I gdybym robila go dla siebie, to bym przedluzyla troszke rekawy, oraz caly sweter. Jesli chodzi o wloczke, to najlepsze rezultaty osiagniemy uzywajac welny owczej albo alpaki (lub ich domieszek). Osobiscie, zdecydowalam sie jednak na akryl (Willow Wash Worsted), poniewaz chcialam miec mozliwosc prania w pralce bez obawy o to, ze mi sie sweter sfilcuje. Jak na razie wloczka sprawuje sie dobrze i prawie wogole sie nie mechaci. Jest ona bardzo miekka i bardzo leciutko polyskliwa.
 

The pattern's official name is Beleaf Me. It was designed by Ekaterina Fillippova-Blanchard, and can be purchased either on Etsy here, or via Ravelry. Even though it is written for children, you can alter it somewhat to fit an adult. In my case (my DD's sweater does fit me, even though I am more curvy and look more feminine, but it's not overly tight or body hugging on me), I made the largest size, in a slightly thicker yarn, and on larger needles. If I was going to make it for myself, I would make the sleeves and the sweater body longer. When it comes to yarn choice, I think that wool or alpaca would produce the nicest results. I decided to go with Willow Wash Worsted acrylic, because I wanted to have the ability to just throw the sweater in a washing machine and not worry about felting. So far, the yarn is performing well and doesn't pill much. It is also quite soft and has the tiniest amount of sheen to it.

Sweaters, again/Znowu swetry

Ok, I'm back with a sweater. This time, it is just a simple, loose rectangle with some tapered, ribbed sleeves and a turtleneck. Nothing fancy or exotic, but soft, warm and comfy for the winter. The pattern is free and can be accessed from here, or directly here. The instructions are quite easy to execute. I just made the sweater longer than the pattern suggested. I also knit both sleeves at the same time, as well, as both front and back sections at the same time - this way, I could better ensure that the shading pattern was the same (or very, very nearly the same) on all corresponding parts of the sweater. Now, the yarn... I used the suggested Queensland Collection Kuma, but I don't think it is the best choice for a garment like this. The yarn is more like a thin ribbon of roving than actual yarn, since it barely has any twist to it, and the twist tends to disappear during knitting. Because of its loose structure, the yarn splits very easily, so I suggest knitting with blunt tipped needles and not too tightly (I used plastic Denise interchangeables).  Also, due to its lack of twist and the acrylic content, the yarn tends to pill and bloom considerably. Garments made from this yarn, tend to stretch, especially when wet. And that's about it for this sweater. 

Ok, wracam ze swetrem. Tym razem to zwykly, prosciutki, luzny prostokat z lekko zwezanymi rekawami i dorobionym golfem. Nic specjalnego, ani egzotycznego, ale za to cieply, miekki i wygodny na zime. Darmowy wzor, po angielsku, mozna pobrac stad, albo bezposrednio stad. Ogolnie dziergalo sie latwo i szybko. Poniewaz odcienie wloczki ukladaja sie pasami, dziergalam oba rekawy na raz, oraz przod i tyl na raz, poniewaz w ten sposob latwiej mi bylo zaplanowac zuzycie wloczki tak, aby pasy ukladaly sie jednakowo po obu stronach/w obu rekawach. A odnosnie wloczki.... Uzylam tej, ktora zostala zalecona w oryginalnych instrukcjach (Queensland Collection Kuma). Jednakze, moim zdaniem, wloczka ta nie nadaje sie zbytnio na dzierganie swetrow (ani zadnych ubran w zasadzie), poniewaz jest ona raczej nietypowa, luzna wloczka, ktora nie ma zbytnio skreconych wlokien. Dzieki temu, wloczka bardzo latwo mechaci sie i rozszczepia na indywidualne "wloski". Dlatego tez radze do niej (i jej podobnych) uzyc tepo zakonczonych drutow (ja uzywalam plastikowych, marki Denise). Poniewaz wloczka ta ma w sobie pewien procent wlokien akrylowych, rzeczy z niej zrobione maja tez ogromne tendencje do rozciagania sie, szczegolnie na mokro. I to wlasciwie wszystko jesli chodzi o ten sweter.

Some time ago, I also made another cabled sweater for my DD, but blue. She liked the pink one so much, that she requested another one like it, but in a different colour. So, here it is.

Jakis czas temu zrobilam drugi warkoczowy sweter dla corki, tyle ze niebieski. Tak sie jej podobal poprzedni rozowy, ze poprosila abym zrobila jej nastepny, ale w innym kolorze. A wiec pokazuje:

What else? The Rainbow Loom craze is still alive and well here, so my DD and I have been busy producing various creations out of a myriad of coloured elastics (all patterns/instructions can be easily found on YouTube).

Co jeszcze? Moda na Rainbow Loom nadal ma sie u nas dobrze. W zwiazku z tym, razem z corka, plotlysmy rozne rzeczy z kolorowych gumek. Filmiki instruktazowe do ponizszych wyrobow znalazlam na YouTube.

A girl's sweater/Sweterek dla dziewczynki.

Witajcie! Wczoraj skonczylam dziergac sweterek dla corci. Bardzo szybko sie dziergalo (niecale 3 tygodnie z przerwami) dzieki uzyciu dosyc grubej wloczki (Bernat Softee Chunky). Wloczka, niestety, nie jest najlepszej jakosci. W robocie okazala sie bardzo czepliwa, nieelastyczna i bardzo latwo mechacaca sie. Sweterek wyszedl sztywny i... piszczacy. Aby go troche zmiekczyc, zaaplikowalam mu goraca pare z zelazka. Wzor, wedlug ktorego robilam ten sweter to "Chill Chaser Cabled Pullover" wydany przez firme Bernat. No, i lece dalej. Moze sie zabiore tym razem za wyszywanie.  Pozdrawiam wszystkich bardzo cieplutko.

Hello! Yesterday, I finished a sweater for my DD. It was a quick knit (less than 3 weeks), due to the usage of a super bulky yarn (Bernat Softee Chunky).  Unfortunately, the yarn turned out to be less than stellar. I found it quite inelastic and very sticky/clingy. It also pills like CRAZY. The resulting sweater turned out to be quite stiff and... squeaky. To soften it, I treated it with a blast of steam from the iron. The title of the pattern, which I used to knit this sweater is Chill Chaser Cabled Pullover from Bernat. Well, I'll be off now. Flower Cardigan/Sweterek z kwiatkami

Tak to juz jest, ze jak sie jakas robotke dlubie, i dlubie, i dlubie, to sie ja w koncu wydlubie, czyli skonczy. Tak to bylo z tym sweterkiem, bo owego dlubania bylo CO NIEMIARA. Najpierw te ciagle zmiany kolorow wloczki.  Potem wyszywanie sporej ilosci kwiatkow, i niesamowitej ilosci  supelkow podluznych (scieg torsadowy/bullion stitch po angielsku). A na "deser" oczywiscie byla walka z tymi wszystkimi koncowkami bawelnianej wloczki.  To tak jak we snie, w ktorym biegniesz i biegniesz a jednoczesnie stoisz w miejscu. Obled. Tak w zasadzie sam projekt nie byl trudny - nic skomplikowanego, nic egzotycznego, tylko niemilosiernie zmudny. No, ale juz po wszyskim. Dziecince sie podoba. Sweterek jest na wyrost, wiec ujrzy swiatlo dzienne wiecej niz kilka razy. Dodatkowe zdjecia sweterka zamieszczam ponizej. Sam projekt jest z ksiazki "The Bumper Book of Knitting". Wloczka to bawelna Sonata, zakupiona w Elann. No, i to narazie tyle. Inne robotki sie robia, ale malpy tez sa wymagajace, bo albo trzeba zmian kolorow, albo sporej koncentracji zeby sie nie pogubic.  Dziekuje Wam za odwiedziny i zawsze mile komentarze. Zycze Wam nie tylko dobrego dnia, ale przede wszystkim dobrego zdrowia, zwaszcza, ze wchodzimy w sezon grypowy.

This sweater took forever to finish. FOR-EVER. Sometimes it felt like no matter how much I worked on it, it did not progress at all. First, it was the numerous colour changes for the stripes. Then I had to embroider 'gazillion' flowers and bullion stitch motifs. And for the grand finale, there were oodles of those nasty yarn ends to weave in and knot (yes, I knot certain yarns). Tedious - that's an understatement. But, it's all behind me now. My DD likes the cardi, which I made a bit big for her so that it will see the light of day more than five times before she grows out of it. The pattern is called Little Princess Cardigan by Melody Griffiths and can be found in The Bumper Book of Knitting (out of print). The yarn is Sonata from Elann. So, that's that for now. Other projects are definitely on the burner but they're also a bit demanding in terms of either colour changes or having to concentrate on the pattern (or risk loosing one's place and making mistakes).
