Happy Hats/Wesole czapki

Juz listopad.

November is here. It's getting cold outside. More and more often we have to wear hats, scarves and gloves. Today, in keeping with the theme, I present several cold-weather accessories. Nothing exotic, but kind of cute and they make me smile.

Pierwsze z nich, to czapki typu kotek. Niesamowicie latwe i szybkie w wykonaniu. Nastepnie mozemy ozdobic wedlug wlasnego uznania (n.p. wyszyc wasy, nos i przyszyc guzik w ksztalcie kociej lapki), lub kompletnie pominac jakiekolwiek dodatki.

First, kitty hats. Super easy and fast to make. You can knit them in the round (as per instructions in C'Mon, Cat Happy pattern), or just make two rectangles/squares with a rib stitch on the bottom, and sew together. You can make the ears by either sewing a line of stitches in the corners through entire thickness of the hat, or by just sewing several stitches in one place (see photo below). Next, you can decorate the hat however you like, e.g. embroider whiskers, nose, attach a cat paw button, or skip embellishments altogether.

Nastepna czapka nazywa sie "Brain Waves" (czyli Fale Mozgowe). Mozna ja z powodzeniem wydziergac z resztek wloczek, i w roznych kolorach.

Next is a Brain Waves Beanie. You can make it using yarn remnants and in variety of colours. This  crochet pattern is very easy and quick to execute. It is also free to download from Liz McQueen's (the designer) website here.

Zrobilam sobie tez prosty, gruby i puchaty szalik z wloczki Skye.

I also made a simple, thick scarf using Skye yarn. Unfortunately, I should have known better. Well, I DID know better, but after seeing promo photos of hats, scarves, blankets and cushions made with this yarn, i.e. things of frequent use, I was hoping that this time will be different. It wasn't. The thing is, these roving-type yarns are loosely spun and they are notorious for pilling and getting very fuzzy. In this case, the yarn is made of acrylic and polyester fibers, so I figured that it won't felt, which should help. Unfortunately, after just one use, the scarf resembles a ragged animal. Perhaps, if it was made of wool, it would felt with use and not fuzz up so much. Either way, I can not recommend this yarn for any item of frequent use and which will undergo friction, like hats, mittens, blankets, etc.

No, i na dzis to wszystko. Zycze wszystkim pieknego i przytulnego dnia.
So, that is that for today. Wishing everyone a beautiful and cozy day.
