Leaf and Nupp stole/ Listki i babelki

 

So... I have finally finished something. It's called the Leaf and Nupp Stole and the pattern can be found in Knitted Lace of Estonia: Techniques, Patterns and Traditions by Nancy Bush. Although it took me 2 months to finish, it is actually super easy to make. Again, I used Elann's Peruvian Baby Silk for this one, because I wanted something warmer than a traditional lace stole, yet very light and delicate to touch. The only thing that bugs me a tiny little bit about this yarn are the guard hairs, but that's alpaca for you. I can live with it.

No... nareszcie cos skonczylam. Nazywa sie to to Leaf and Nupp Stole (czyli Liscie i Bable). Wzor jest w ksiazce Nancy Bush, Knitted Lace of Estonia: Techniques, Patterns and Traditions. Chociaz szal zajal mi dwa miesiace, byl niesamowicie latwy w wykonaniu. Tyle, ze sie to to dosyc dlugo dlubie, wiec trzeba miec nie tyle umiejetnosc, co cierpliwosc. I tym razem uzylam wloczki Peruvian Baby Silk z Elann, poniewaz chcialam szala ktory bedzie cieply, a jednoczesnie leciuski i delikatny. Jedyne co  mi w tej wloczce troszenke przeszkadza to sterczace gdzieniegdzie wloski, ale tak to juz jest z alpaka. Mozna sie zreszta przyzwyczaic.

Zycze pieknego dnia. Dziekuje za odwiedziny.

Ryba i powtorka z serwetki/A fish and a doily repeat

 

Pewnego dnia, moje dziecie zobaczylo czapke-rybe na monitorze komputera i postanowilo, ze MUSZE ja zrobic. Myslalam, ze zapomni o niej za kilka dni, ale nie... No wiec rzucilam wszystkie inne robotki i wyprodukowalam jej ta czapke. Wzor jest darmowy (po angielsku) i mozna go znalezc tutaj. Swietny na zuzycie resztek wloczki, latwy i szybki do wykonania, no i rezultat jest dosyc zabawny.

One day, my daughter saw a fish hat on the monitor and decided that I HAVE to make one for her. I thought that she'll forget about it after a few days, but no... So I put aside my other knitting projects and made her this hat. The pattern is free and can be obtained here. It's great as a stash buster, quick and easy to make, and the result is kind of silly/funny.

 

Co do serwetki. Zrobilam jednokolorowa, bo ta poprzednia nie nadawala sie na prezent, ale wydaje mi sie ona jakas taka... nudna. Ta trojkolorowa wyglada, dla mnie, bardziej interesujaco, tak troche "z charakterem", pomimo podobienstwa do tarczy na strzelnicy.  

About the doily. I re-made it in one colour, because the previous one was not suitable as a gift. However, to me it looks... boring. I find the tri-colour one a lot more visually interesting, with "character", despite similarity to a target practice board.

Zrobilam serwetke dla dobrej znajomej / I made a doily for a friend

Nie wyszla tak, jak chcialam. 

No, bo chcialam uzyc trzech kolorow - bialego, ecru i bezowego - tak, aby poszczegolne sekcje nie kontrastowaly zbytnio ze soba. Ale, niestety, tak to nieraz jest, ze jak sie kupuje patrzac na monitor, a nie na "zywa" probke, to sie dostaje cos zupelnie innego niz to, czego chcemy. Kordonek, ktory przyszedl, jest zlocisto bezowy i nie pasuje do ecru. No, ale postanowilam zrobic serwetke pomimo "konfliktu" odcieni/kolorow.  Niestety, podczas dziergania, ten glupi bezowy srodek, otoczony ecru, ciagle mi przypominal tarcze do strzelania z luku. No, istne paskudztwo, i wogole wstyd takie cos komus dac. Ale ze nie mialam serca tego pruc, tym bardziej ze narobilam sporo bardzo pracochlonnych "babelkow", to jechalam z tym do konca. Po zblokowaniu bylo troche lepiej.  Teraz mysle, ze nie jest az tak tragicznie bo 1) moge na srodku serwetki postawic wazon lub jakis inny bibelot, i calkowicie go zakryc; 2) na ciemnym tle, serwetka prezentuje sie jako tako normalnie. Poniewaz jednak nie uwazam, aby nadawala sie na wysylke do kogokolwiek, w robocie jest juz jednokolorowa, kremowa (wizualnie bezpieczna) wersja z cienszych nici. Wzor serwetki to Harvest Dance Doily z ksiazeczki Old Fashioned Doilies  Kathryn White. 

It didn't come out the way I wanted.
Well, I wanted to use three colours/shades - white, ecru and beige - so that none of the doily sections would contrast with each other too much. However, what happens (often) when you buy yarn online without seeing it in real life? You just may get a totally different shade/colour from the one you want, which is what happened in this case. The brown/beige I got just doesn't go too well with ecru. Despite this, I still decided to make the doily. Unfortunately, the entire time I was crocheting it, the brown middle section reminded me of a bull's eye on a target board. It was horrible and completely unsuitable as a gift! But I didn't have the heart to frog it, especially that I already spent time crocheting numerous 'nubs', so I just continued with it. After blocking, the thing looked better.  Now, I think it doesn't look too tragic, especially that 1. I can cover the middle section with a vase, or some other object; 2. it looks semi-decent on a dark table. Because I still don't think that it is suitable as a gift, I'm making a one-colour (i.e. safe) version of this doily. NB, the pattern for this is called Harvest Dance Doily, and can be found in Old Fashioned Doilies by Kathryn White.

Babelki/Nubs

And now, let's move on to a more pleasant topic. Today, the mailman brought me a parcel full of yarns. Aaaaah... Christmas in February! Take a look:

Normalnie nie zamawiam tylu wloczek naraz, ale byla super okazja w Elann.com, i nie moglam sie oprzec. Ta liliowa to Silken Kydd (70% Super Kid Moher/30% Jedwab), zielona to Peruvian Baby Silk, (80% alpaka/20% jedwab, ktora juz przedtem uzywalam), a reszta to Naturally Mist (80% Kid Moher/20% Nylon). Wywalilam wlasnie to wszystko na stol i tylko siedze, i podziwiam. Kolory na zdjeciu troche nie wyszly. W rzeczywistosci, ta blado rozowa jest o wiele bardziej brzoskwiniowa, a ta niebieska po prawej jest bardziej stalowa.
  No, i to wszystko na dzis. Dziekuje Wam za odwiedziny i za mile komentarze. Zycze pieknego dnia/wieczoru.

I don't normally order so much yarn, but Elann.com had some great deals and I just couldn't resist. The mauve one is Silken Kydd, the green one is Peruvian Baby Silk (which I used before), and the rest are Naturally Mist.  The colours in the photo are not very accurate. That pale pink is, in fact, peach, and the blue on the right is more of a steel grayish blue. I dumped the lot on a table and I'm just sitting here admiring and playing with the skeins.

Triinu

Skonczylam wlasnie szal Triinu. Wzor jest z ksiazki "Knitted Lace of Estonia: Techniques, Patterns, and Traditions" Nancy Bush. Tylko zeby wyszedl z tego szal a nie szalik, poszerzylam go troche i przedluzylam wzor na koncowkach. Wloczka, ktora zuzylam to Peruvian Baby Silk (80% alpaka, 20% jedwab). Jest dosyc gruba jak na azurowy wzor, ale taka chcialam zeby szal byl przede wszystkim cieply a jednoczesnie leciutki i mieciutki. Bardzo fajnie sie go dziergalo, latwo i szybko. Zdjecia raczej marne, bo pogoda ponura a jutro musze wyslac szal do nowej wlascicielki, wiec nie da rady czekac na lepsza pogode i swiatlo. Bardzo dziekuje wszystkim za odwiedziny na blogu. Zycze wspanialego dnia/wieczoru.

I just finished the Triinu stole. The pattern is from Knitted Lace of Estonia: Techniques, Patterns, and Traditions by Nancy Bush. Because I wanted a stole not a scarf, I added more pattern repeats and elongated the border sections. I chose Peruvian Baby Silk for this project (80% alpaca, 20% silk), because I wanted a predominantly warm, yet very light and soft stole. Triinu was very easy and relatively fast to knit. The photos are rather poor, because the weather here is very dreary, rainy and blah, and I can't wait for a better light, since the stole is going on a trip to its new home tomorrow. Znowu kapelusz/A hat again

A tak. A jakze. Czwarty juz z tej serii kapelusz. I, przez jakis czas, ostatni. Wyszlo mi narazie z systemu. Zrobilam go z jedwabnej wloczki, i ten chyba lubie najbardziej.  Mam kilka innych robotek w toku, ale nie mowie, zeby nie zapeszyc. Tzn. zapeszyc w tym sensie, ze albo wogole sie nie doczekaja skonczenia, albo minie kilka lat zanim po nie znowu siegne. Wiec milcze.  Pozdrawiam serdecznie i dziekuje za odwiedziny na blogu.

That's right! A hat again. Fourth Modest Cloche, and probably the last one - for a while anyway. I think that maybe I got it out of my system. I made it with Studio Silk and I think this is my favourite one. It feels just right. I do have several other projects in progress, but I'm not saying anymore because I don't want to jinx them. Wlasciwie niewiele nowego do pokazania. Grudzien okazal sie dla mnie paskudny. Moj Tatus mial drugi zawal serca i umarl 13go. Potem ja i coreczka zachorowalysmy na jakies nieciekawe zaziebienie. Ja jestem nadal chora. Nie chce mi sie niczego robic, a dzierganie idzie ponizej tempa slimaczego. No, ale do Nowego Roku tylko 2.5 dnia, a w 2010 bedzie Olimpiada Zimowa, na dodatek w moim drugim kraju - Kanadzie. W lato bedzie Puchar Swiata w pilce noznej i, miejmy nadzieje, ciekawe mecze do ogladania. Wlasciwie to lubie ogladac pilke nozna wtedy, kiedy stawka jest dosyc wysoka, czyli Puchar Swiata i Europy. No dobra, nie nudze juz. Oto moje nowe robotki.

Not much, just a couple of little project to show. December has been a bad month for me. My dad had a second heart attack and passed away on the 13th. Then my little girl and I got sick with some dumb cold virus and I am still sick. I don't feel like doing much of anything and any type of needlework is progressing well below snail pace. On the bright side, there are only about 2.5 days left to New Year. And in the New Year, we'll have Winter Olympics here, in Canada. Then, there will be the Soccer World Cup to watch. I like watching soccer when the stakes are high, i.e. the World Cup and Euro Cup. Anyway, this is what I did since the last update.

Oczywiscie, sniezynki, ktore skonczylam jeszcze przed Swietami. Wszystkie robione z gotowych wzorow w ksiazkach.

More snowflakes. All of these were made using patterns from books and finished before Christmas.

Miniaturowa misia (ok. 6.4 cm dlugosci) na Gwiazdkowy prezent dla coreczki. Mam wrazenie, ze nabawilam sie permanentnego zeza od tak malej robotki.

A miniature bear (approx. 2.5" tall) as a Christmas gift for my DD. Thankfully, she really likes it.

No, i oczywscie nastepny kapelusz. No coz, lubie je i dobrze wygladaja na glowie. A w robocie jest juz czwarty. Zwariowalam? Pewnie, ze tak.

And yes, another Modest Cloche hat. What can I say, I like them. They look good on. And yes, there is a fourth one in the works.
