Rustic Welted Pumpkins/Rustykalne dynie

Witajcie! Dyni ciag dalszy... Polecam.

Hello! Continuing with the pumpkins... This time I made some ridged ones, using tweed yarns, which resulted in a very rustic style. Although they are super easy to make (simple stockinette stitch), they do tend to take a long time, because every so often you need to knit together first row with seventh row (or whichever row you want, depending on how wide you want the "welts" to be), which drastically shortens the length of the piece - until you reach your desired overall length. It's a great project for TV nights, as there's not much deep thinking, checking or planning involved. I recommend.

Pumpkin Season - part 5/ Sezon na dynie - cz. 5

(For English, scroll down)  Dzis ostatnia porcja dyn dzierganych. Aby nadac temu ksztalt dyni, sciagamy dosyc mocno "pilke" wloczka w szesciu miejscach (dokladne instrukcje sa oczywiscie podane w tresci wzoru).

Today - last portion of pumpkins. For these, I used Tartan Plaid Pumpkin pattern by Marie Mayhew (it can be purchased via Ravelry, or from the author's web page directly). So far, I think these are my favourite, because they reflect the cozy character of Fall so beautifully and allow for nearly endless combination of colours. I could make many more, especially that I have a lot of yarn leftovers and even more colour combination ideas, but I wanted to finish all pumpkins before October. As I mentioned, this pattern is ideal for using up yarn remnants. They don't have to be in Fall colours either. You can use pastels, or rich jewel tones, or totally unconventional colours, or even neons (e.g. a black pumpkin with orange or yellow neon stripes for Halloween). You also don't have to use twigs to make stems (like in the original pattern). I just knitted mine free-hand (as I like to do). You can also skip the stems altogether and attach some sort of leaves if you wish. In general, the pattern is quick and easy. Basically, you knit something that resembles a football/rugby ball, using a rib pattern and in the round. After you stuff it, just embroider vertical lines in the purl stitch grooves, using chain stitch. To achieve more of a pumpkin shape, you make indentations by pulling a length of yarn tautly around the ball (full details are in the pattern instructions, of course).

I to juz wszystko na dzis. Byc moze wiecej dyn powstanie w nastepnym roku. Bardzo dziekuje za odwiedziny. Zycze wszystkim pieknego dnia.

And that is it for today. Perhaps I will make more pumpkins next year. Thank you so much for dropping by. Wishing you a lovely day.
